Dutch film company ‘Motel Films’ have chosen the KC Stadium to film scenes for their forthcoming release ‘In Orange’, and are due to begin shooting within hours of the end of the Nationwide League Division Three game between Hull City and Cambridge United on 3rd January 2004.
The Tigers former home Boothferry Park was the original choice of location for the scenes, but after the co-producer arrived at the KC Stadium by mistake back in November, the decision was taken to switch filming to the new venue which was deemed to make the perfect setting for a dream sequence in the film.
The filming is another first for the Stadium and will surely add to the marketing appeal of the £43 million complex, which celebrated its first anniversary earlier this month.
In Orange’ is a feature film about a very talented and passionate 11-year old footballer called Remco, who has only one dream: to play in the under 12 Dutch national team. Remco’s father Erik is even more passionate in coaching his son. He thinks he always knows best, which leads to conflicts between father and son, and Remco's mother Sylvia is the one who has to make the peace between them. Despite the arguments, Remco's world falls apart when his father dies. When he is injured shortly afterwards, his girlfriend Anneke vows to support him to make his dream come true.
The KC Stadium will feature in a fantasy sequence in which Remco dreams of playing for the Dutch National team against a dream team including Garrincha, Abe Lenstra, Nico Reijnders, Andreas Escobar, Bobby Moore, Lev Yashin and Theo Laseroms.
Motel Films were hoping to cast young footballers from the Hull area to appear in the feature film as the dream team, and the researchers took photographs of players from Hull City’s Football in the Community Scheme, North Cave FC and Smith & Nephew FC for consideration.
Actors will be flown in from Holland to play the part of the Dutch team.
’In Orange’ will be shown in Dutch cinemas with English subtitles in 2004.
