A record 25,280 strong sell-out crowd saw England’s young International stars seal a 3-2 victory over Holland at the Kingston Communications Stadium on Tuesday evening.
It was another successful event at the KC Stadium with the crowd, transformed into a sea of red and white, creating a sensational atmosphere to help lift Coach David Platt¹s young charges.
Platt gave debuts to eight players for this England win, which mirrored the scoreline of England’s international friendly against Serbia & Montenegro at the £45m venue last June.
England started well when Crewe's Dean Ashton marked his under 21 debut by converting a Carlton Cole cross in the 23rd minute, only for Holland’s Jack Tuyp to equalise from 12 yards, within seconds of coming on after the half time break.
England regained their lead in spectacular fashion when David Bentley’s stunning shot went in off the inside of the post and into the far corner. But within 60 seconds, the Dutch team were level once more with a goal from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, an overhead kick from the edge of the six-yard box.
But England were not through and Darren Bent turned England hero with three minutes remaining, when he produced a neat finish from a low ball from Stead inside the six-yard box for his second goal in three games.
