The attendance of 23,495 at Hull City AFC’s match vs. Huddersfield Town at the KC Stadium last weekend set a new record for the Third Division.
The KC Stadium was already the stage for the post-1992 Division Three record with the 23,006 who witnessed Tigers top-of-the-table clash with Doncaster Rovers in December 2003.
Having nudged just ahead of the 23,287 who saw the visit of Manchester United in 1974, Saturday’s gate was the highest for a league game in Hull since 27th December 1971.
On that day, 26,091 were in attendance at Boothferry Park in the old Second Division when Hull City lost 2-3 against Sunderland.
Apart from the England Under-21 games at the KC, the Huddersfield crowd was the highest for a football match in the City since the FA Cup Fourth Round defeat of West Ham United in February 1973, which was seen by 32,290 supporters.
