CONFESSIONS OF A CITY SUPPORTER
Thursday 16th September – Saturday 9th October, 8.00pm
(Post show talk back with director and cast Tuesday 21st September)
Hull Truck are to stage a comedy premiere by BAFTA Award-winning playwright, Alan Plater, as a celebration of Hull City’s Centenary year and the club’s recent promotion.
Plater is counted as one of the founding fathers of Hull Truck, his association dating back to the 1970’s. This is his second play written for the Company, following the success of Sweet Sorrow in 1990. Returning to his Hull roots once again, the dedicated City supporter brings to life Hull’s footballing past through the recollections of one local family.
From generation to generation, each expectant mother knows she’s carrying a die-hard City fan! It goes without saying. Always born on a nil nil draw and always named William, these guys learn the facts of life from an early age; the ref’s always blind and City never lose on merit.
This funny and historic journey details the highs and lows of the beautiful game and celebrates the Sacred Legend of Great-Grandad’s Cloth Cap!
Hull City’s Centenary celebrations kicked off earlier in the year with a gala dinner dance attended by a host of former players. CONFESSIONS OF A CITY SUPPORTER enhances an already hectic diary to celebrate the club’s centenary. Future events include a Centenary Football Tournament, a Centenary Ball and a poll to find the 100 greatest Tigers players ever.
Tigers Marketing Manager, Rob Smith said. ‘We are honoured to be involved with this production, which will form an integral part of our Centenary celebrations.
"There are endless opportunities for both Hull City AFC and Hull Truck to share through this relationship and we are looking forward developing these ties during our Centenary year.
"We have already begun working closely with Hull Truck on a number on initiatives which will benefit both fans and theatre goers during the period of the play.
"We are certain that 'Confessions of a City Supporter' will interest supporters and players both young and old."
Don’t miss this brand new comedy from the writer of award winning work including FORTUNES OF WAR and THE BEIDERBECKE TRILOGY.
