Hull City AFC have confirmed that newly-promoted Sunderland will visit the KC Stadium for a pre-season fixture to contest the Raich Carter Trophy presently held by Hull City, on Wednesday 27th July (Kick-off 7.45pm).
Mick McCarthy's young side finished top of the pile in the Championship and were the outstanding team in that division.
It will be the Black Cats' second visit to the KC as they had the honour of playing in the opening game against the Tigers back in December 2002.
On that occasion a Steve Melton goal gave City a 1-0 win.
City manager Peter Taylor believes it's a terrific fixture for his side and said.
"We're very fortunate yet again to have friendlies against two Premiership teams in Sunderland and Bolton.
"Sunderland were the best team in the Championship last season and I'm sure they'll improve again in the Premiership.
"They will provide magnificent opposition and it'll be nice to have them back again after their appearance here in the opening game at the KC Stadium.
"I'm also looking forward to meeting up with Mick McCarthy and Ian Evans again, both of whom have done a tremendous job at Sunderland."
McCarthy is looking forward to bringing his side here as part of their preparations for life in the Premiership and said. "We're looking forward to visiting the Kingston Communications Stadium, which is a magnificent facility.
"Pre-season preparations are vitally important for any club and Hull City will provide good quality opposition for us as we prepare for the season ahead."
Admission prices for the game will be £9 for adults and £5 for concessions.
The visit of Sunderland concludes a busy week for the Tigers in which they play their final four pre-season friendlies in a schedule of eight games.
