Gemtec Arena to Host Top Trampolining Event

Trampolining of the highest level is coming to the Gemtec Arena on 26th and 27th November, hosted by Hull High Fliers Trampoline Club and in conjunction with the East Midlands Trampoline Committee.

Saturday the 26th will see individual competitors in the Grade 2 Finals who have qualified from events held all over the country.

Hull High Fliers have the third largest number of competitors qualifying for the Grade 2 Finals out of all the 63 clubs in the country eligible to take part.

All six of The High Fliers National competitors who train at the centre of excellence, which is based at the Gemtec Arena, have managed to qualify to take part.

Coaches Michael Williams and Scott Rowbotham are competing in the Over 18 Men’s, Mike Zwahlen and Andrew Abrahamsen are competing in the U15 Boys and Jodie Rudd and Jenny Fussey are competing in the U13 and under 15 Girls.

Sunday will see the National Synchronised and Double Minitramp Championships with Joe Backhouse competing with James Blencowe from Abbey Flyers (Sheffield) in the Synchro.  Joe has had a very good season and qualified for the National Grade 1 finals in Birmingham with a massive score of 56.9 at the grade 1 in Cardiff, so hopes are high for a good placing.

Director of Coaching Julie Williams said. “We are so proud of all of our National trampolinists this year as every one of them has qualified for their respective National Finals.

“That’s 100 percent pure perfection and shows the effort put in by both competitors and coaches at the Centre of Excellence.”

The three events being held over the weekend show all elements of the sport. Trampoline routines are performed on 7'x 14' web beds that can propel the trampolinist up to 30 feet in the air.

A competitor takes as many preliminary bounces as necessary for height and control, before beginning the first of 10 skills in a routine. Two routines are performed, a compulsory and a voluntary.

The first routine is composed by the Governing Body British Gymnastics; the second routine is a 10-skill voluntary, made up of single, double or triple somersaults with multiple twists.

No skill may be repeated within either routine. A successful routine will show consistency of height, proper technique and a minimum deviation from the center of the bed. The routine must end under control in an upright position.

Synchronized trampolining demands the same athletic skill as individual trampolining, while adding the element of precision timing. Athletes perform two routines, a compulsory and a voluntary. Using two trampolines, a pair of athletes perform identical 10-skill routines at the same time.

In this most artistic event, each performs a mirror image of the other, doubling the visual beauty of the competition. The goal is to have both trampolinists in total synchronization of skills, height and form

The double mini event is a totally new sport for the City and combines gymnastic and trampolining together. After a short run, the athlete jumps onto a small two-level trampoline to perform a rebounding trick immediately followed by a dismount element onto a landing mat.

The events start at 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday, with both expected to finish about 5pm. Tickets can be purchased on the door at £6 for  adults and £4 for children/OAP’s.
