Ofcom yesterday announced the award of the new FM local commercial radio licence for Kingston-upon-Hull to KCFM 99.9.
Ofcom received seven applications for the Kingston-upon-Hull licence and after giving careful consideration to each of the applications submitted, the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee decided to award the licence to KCFM 99.9.
KCFM 99.9 would like to thank everyone who supported this licence application following a brief trial of the station from the KC Stadium in 2005 and we look forward to going live on air from Spring 2007.
The new station will provide 'a truly local, full service radio station for Kingston-upon-Hull playing a wide variety of classic hit music from the last four decades, with 24 hour-a-day local news, sport, information, interviews and entertaining features of particular relevance to the City and the surrounding area.'
The licence is for a service to cover Kingston-upon-Hull which has an adult population (aged 15+) of between 400,000 and 430,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics. The proposed frequency (99.9 MHz) is subject to international agreement on radio spectrum usage.
Ofcom will publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence shortly.
The licence will be issued for a twelve year period.
