International Rugby League will return to the KC Stadium this autumn with England tackling Samoa in the Federation Shield on Sunday November 5th (kick-off 2.45pm).
Following on from the success of Great Britain’s Tri-nations clashes with Australia (2003 & 2005) and New Zealand (2004), the KC has once again been selected as a tournament venue.
The Federation Shield is a new concept and will feature England, Samoa, France and Tonga, all of whom are making preparations for the 2008 World Cup.
The England side will be made up of top players from the Engage Super League, as well as some of the games fastest rising stars.
The tournament gets underway on October 22nd with a special ‘double-header’ at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium, and two of the fixtures will be staged in France.
RFL Executive Chairman Richard Lewis commented. “International Rugby League is the pinnacle of the game and this new tournament will give both English and French fans the opportunity to see many of Europe’s best players together with emerging stars from some of the Pacific islands.
“At the same time we are giving rugby league followers throughout the country the chance to see a match in this new tournament with fixtures being staged at the Twickenham Stoop, London, the KC Stadium in Hull and the final being staged at Widnes’ Halton Stadium.”
Tickets for the tournament will go on sale via the RFL Ticket Hotline on Monday 21st August.
