England U21 International

This summer will see England's Under-21s play Serbia and Montenegro on Monday June 2nd at the Kingston Communications Stadium.

This high-profile friendly against top-quality opposition comes just a week before David Platt and his team take on Slovakia in a European Championship qualifier at Sunderland's Stadium of Light, and provides ideal preparation for a must-win game.

Platt said: The match against Serbia and Montenegro will be the perfect warm-up for the Slovakia game, with the two teams coming from similar football cultures.

"We are delighted to be playing at Hull's superb new stadium, and hope the local fans will turn up in force to see some top level international football."

England have already played the same opponents, then called Yugoslavia, in a friendly earlier this season. A 1-1 draw at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium saw Shaun Wright-Phillips score his first Under-21 goal for a late equaliser, and Platt is well aware of the opposition's quality:

"As we saw in September last year they are a very accomplished team capable of moments of outstanding individual skill.

"We know it will be a tough match and we will need to be at our best."

England are currently in third spot in Group 7 as they seek to qualify for next year's European Championship, with crucial encounters against Portugal and Turkey ahead.

Having the friendly against Serbia and Montenegro at the KC Stadium is a massive coup for the city and Chairman of the Stadium Management Company, Adam Pearson, commented: "We are obviously delighted that the Kingston Communications Stadium has been chosen to host such a prestigious international fixture.

"The investment from the Council at the KC Stadium was made so that the City of Hull may attract such events of a national importance, and this will help put the city on the sporting map.

"As soon as the FA have visited the KC Stadium to discuss the details of the fixture we will of course announce all of the ticket information.

"This will be an FA controlled event, however the Stadium Management Company will be releasing all the relevant information as soon as possible.

The Stadium Management Company are extremely proud that the FA have chosen the KC Stadium for one of their international fixtures."
