Britain’s most popular soprano Lesley Garrett, CBE will make another appearance at a major Rugby League event when she tops the pre-match entertainment bill at Game Six of the Gillette Tri-Nations in just under 6 days time.
Great Britain take on Australia in the match at the Kingston Communications Stadium on Saturday 19th November (Kick-off 6.15pm).
Last month, Lesley Garrett thrilled supporters attending the engage Super League Grand Final with a special performance of the hymn Jerusalem – the traditional anthem of that event, in the final moments before the teams walked out.
For the forthcoming international fixture, the award-winning, Yorkshire born singer will once perform in the build-up to kick off as the atmosphere in the stadium reaches fever pitch.
And Lesley Garrett says she is eagerly anticipating her return to one of Rugby League’s major events: “Last month I was thrilled to find myself singing ‘Jerusalem' before 65,000 people in celebration of the engage Super League Grand Final.
“I am equally thrilled to be in Hull singing again for the Gillette Tri-Nations and this time I will be singing ‘The Impossible Dream’. I have sung this song on many different occasions and I always feel it truly reflects the spirit and emotion of a great sporting event and the struggle that all sportsmen and woman go through in order to win the day.”
Lesley Garrett regularly appears in both opera, in concert and on television and has won massive critical acclaim as a recording artist; she also has eleven solo CDs to her credit. She will be supported by leading male opera singer Martin Toal who will perform Land of Hope and Glory. Martin Toal has a long association with Rugby League having performed at the sport’s major events and also at high profile club matches.
