The Football League is to stage an under-21 inter-league match against the Italian League at the KC Stadium on Tuesday 21st February (kick-off 7.45pm).
The League team will be selected and managed by Peter Taylor, manager of Hull City and England under-21’s, and will feature the cream of young British talent from the Coca-Cola Football League.
Similarly, the Italian side will feature the best young Italian players from Serie B and will be managed by Giampiero Marini.
True to the themes of The League’s Fans of the Future campaign, which aims to encourage the next generation of football supporters to watch their local League club, all under 7’s accompanied by a paying adult will be able to attend the match for free. Tickets are on sale now priced £8 for adults, with concessions £4.
Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney said: “I look forward to welcoming the representatives of the Italian League to Hull City’s terrific KC stadium for what I’m sure will be a very enjoyable occasion.
“This match will provide a platform for the best young players in The Football League to demonstrate their talent and will give supporters the opportunity to spot the international stars of the future.”
Peter Taylor, manager of The Football League team, said: “Having previously managed the side for this fixture back in 1998 and with this game being staged at the KC Stadium, I am delighted to take on the responsibility of managing The Football League squad once again for this prestigious event.
“I obviously look forward to the football fans of Hull showing their support for the team next month.”
The match will be the 13th of its kind, since the two Leagues first met in November 1960 at Milan’s San Siro stadium. The Italian League winning 4-2 on that occasion. The most recent game was held in November 1998 in Terni and finished 1-1.
