Linda meets her idol Roger Daltrey |
Music fan Linda Turtill has been on cloud nine since meeting her idols Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend last Thursday evening after winning a competition run in conjunction with the KC Stadium and Magic 1161.
Linda and husband Andrew joined a party of 12 other lucky competition winners from across Europe for a VIP trip to The Who’s gig at Sport Palace in Madrid. On arrival at the venue they were treated to a behind the scenes tour including a walk on stage, plus a meet and greet with the band.
“We were told that we would only meet Roger Daltrey as Pete Townshend doesn’t do that kind of thing, but as we entered the room they were both there!” Linda explained.
“They spoke to everyone and posed for photos too. I thanked Pete for his time and he was very gracious, saying it was nice to meet genuine fans who had bought their records.”
Afterwards, the couple had dinner with the crew before taking to their seats and watching the two-hour show in front of a packed audience.
Linda has been a lifelong fan of the band, and indeed the album Quadrophenia was one of the first presents she gave husband Andrew when they first met.
“They sang a great selection of songs from across the years, including some from Quadrophenia and the atmosphere inside the venue was absolutely electric.
“The energy they had on stage was amazing and Roger Daltrey has such a fantastic voice. At times it makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.”
Linda and Andrew left the venue armed with souvenirs, including t-shirts and programmes, plus a very special memento in the form of a guitar plectrum used by Pete Townshend that evening.
“It was just the most amazing night and meeting two legends of rock was quite simply the icing on the cake!
“I can’t wait for Saturday now - just knowing how fantastic the show will be at The KC Stadium. And I will be getting as near to the front as possible!”
