He’s used to being a part of the main act on the pitch at the KC Stadium, but on Saturday Ian Ashbee will be amongst the excited crowd in the stands when rock legends The Who take to the stage.
Ashbee is a big fan of the band and as their European tour rolls into Hull, he is looking forward to his first experience of seeing Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend performing live.
“I’ve never seen The Who play live before, so with them coming to Hull it is a great opportunity for me,” said the Hull City captain.
“They play my sort of music. My wife likes them a lot as well and the Quadrophenia album is one of my favourites.
“It will be great to see them performing live and it’s a great opportunity for the people of Hull and the surrounding areas to see such a massive rock band right on their doorstep.”
As for a favourite song by The Who, Ashbee is quick to reel off the names of a couple of their hits.
“I suppose ‘My Generation’ would be up there, as would a lot of their early stuff. There’s also ‘Pinball Wizard’ and lots of others as well but they would definitely be in my top three.
“With a massive band like The Who, I’m sure there will be a fantastic atmosphere inside the stadium but a completely different one to when there is a football match on.
“To get a band of this standing at the KC is massive for the city of Hull and I’m sure it will be a terrific night.”
